Dr Karl Mallon
Karl is director of Science and Systems at Climate Risk. He is a First Class Honours graduate in Physics and holds a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering. Karl has worked in climate change mitigation, policy and technical analysis since 1991. He is editor and co-author of ‘Renewable Energy Policy and Politics: A Handbook for Decision Making’ published by Earthscan (London) and has worked with various international government and non-government organisations since 1997. He currently specializes in climate change impacts risk to local government, insurance, institutional investment and works with large corporations on opportunities for operation under carbon and climate constraints.
Janice Wormworth
Janice is a technical researcher, writer and communications specialist for Climate Risk. Janice trained in Canada with a BSc in Biology and a Master’s degree in Journalism, she has worked as a science communicator for more than fifteen years with a major focus on climate change and energy issues. Janice’s media background encompasses work for public broadcasters in North America, including the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in research and production. Janice has worked with a variety of national and international non-government organizations in Australia, Europe and North America including the David Suzuki foundation. Janice is currently working on two book projects on climate change and biodiversity issues, to be published 2009.
Dr Mark Hughes
Mark is a First Class Honours graduate in Materials Engineering and holds a doctorate in Materials Science from the University of Cambridge. He has been the recipient of research scholarships from the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust, the British Government and the Oppenheimer Trust. Mark has also been awarded fellowships with the Chevening Technology Enterprise Program (London Business School) and Darwin College (University of Cambridge). Since 1999, he has been based in the field of energy storage and the environment, and is author of a range of peer-reviewed publications in internationally distributed journals. Mark has also worked on commercialisation and fund raising for new technologies emerging in the energy sector.
Pazit Taygfeld
Pazit is an Environmental Planner with experience in oil vulnerability (peak oil) research. Pazit graduated from Griffith University, with a first class honours on Local and State Government responses towards peak oil. During her work for the Griffith University Urban Research Programme Pazit was the lead author of a report on oil vulnerability for the Queensland Department of Transport and is also the co-author of a number of reports on sustainable tourism. Pazit has also worked for Redland Shire Council, developing land management plans for conservation areas. Before joining Climate Risk, Pazit worked as an environmental consultant for a Brisbane based community organisation, assisting them to identify methods to reduce their greenhouse gas emission and improve their environmental performance.
Sean Kidney
Sean has twenty five years’ experience as a social change strategist. He has been an advisor to governments, NGOs and pension fund providers, particularly in the areas of organisational development, marketing and communications and political analysis. Sean is the London-based Europe manager for Climate Risk Europe Ltd as well as the strategy and social marketing consultant to the EU’s new European Website on Integration. Sean has worked extensively with the pension fund sector on marketing and communications for which he has won a dozen Combined Major Superannuation Fund awards. His current focus is on climate change and the intersection between the interests of long-term capital and the progress of economic and social evolution.
